Huygens' principle in the transmission line matrix method (TLM). Global theory

چکیده

Huygens' principle (HP) is understood as a universal principle governing not only the propagation of light, but also of acoustic waves, heat and matter di!usion, SchroK dinger's matter waves, random walks, and many more. According to Hadamard's rigorous de"nition, HP comprehends the principle of action-by-proximity (cf. Faraday's "eld theory, etc.) and the superposition of secondary wavelets (Huygens' construction). This de"nition is reformulated for discrete spaces. The global aspect concerns the propagation of "elds (e.g. wavefronts). Within TLM, the appropriate "eld propagator (Green's function) is the Johns matrix. The compatibility with HP explains the success of TLM in computing propagation, transport, and other evolution processes from a di!erent point of view. A possible practical application of these results for computing eigenmodes is mentioned. Copyright 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Applications of Transmission Line Matrix Method For NDT

The Transmission Line Matrix ( TLM ) is a physical discretization approach used to solve the wave equation numerically. The method replaces a continuous system by a network or an array of lumped elements. The TLM method involves dividing the solution region into a rectangular mesh of the transmission line segments. The nodes of the mesh are the points of discontinuity for acoustic impedances. A...

Analysis of Planar Microstrip Circuits Using Three-Dimensional Transmission Line Matrix Method

The frequency-dependent characteristics of microstrip planar circuits have been previously analyzed using several full-wave approaches. All those methods directly give characteristic of the circuits frequency by frequency. Computation time becomes important if these planar circuits have to be studied over a very large bandwidth. The transmission line matrix (TLM) method presented in this paper ...

Development of Time-Domain Models for Nondestructive Testing

The development of a Transmission-Line Matrix (TLM) for the simulation of ultrasound and microwave propagation in structures common in Nondestructive Testing (NDT) is described. The spatial resolution of the proposed model is better than a tenth of a wavelength. Numerical modeling was carried out for frequencies commonly used in ultrasound and microwave nondestructive testing (3.5MHz – 20GHz). ...

Vocal tract acoustics using the transmission line matrix (TLM) method

Most traditional theories of speech production are currently based on plane waves and on one-dimensional analysis. It i s however well-known that when the frequency of sound reaches a cut-on frequency, higher acoustical modes start to propagate and can become predominant. It is therefore important to evaluate the effects of these higher modes, especially in order to improve acoustical models of...

Analysis of Forest Fire Spread Trend Surrounding Transmission Line Based on Rothermel Model and Huygens Principle

With the expansion of the power grid, transmission lines across forests are increasing. Once forest fire occurs, it could threaten the transmission lines around or even cause them trip out. Therefore, studying the spread of forest fire is important. This paper presents a method based on Rothermel model and Huygens principle to analyze forest fire spread trend surrounding transmission line. Firs...
